You may have noticed that all of our lip balms seem to have different pricing, and asked yourself "Why?" You may have wondered if it was totally random, or based on my personal estimation of the value of a given balm... well, let me take the mystery out of it for you.
All of our lip balms have a starting base price* that takes into account the tube, the label, and most of the basic ingredients, as well as the labor involved in producing the lip balm and then a markup so that I can actually earn money doing this, rather than breaking even. Some ingredients, however, are significantly more expensive than the rest, and/or cost a lot more to ship.
By way of example, ounce-for-ounce, Candelilla Wax (used in all of the vegan lip balms) is just about twice as expensive as Beeswax (used in the regular lip balms). To make up for this difference, lip balms containing Candelilla Wax are marked up by 5¢ per tube. Another example is Vanilla Essential Oil, used in the Vanilla Scented lip balms, which is just over four time as expensive as the Tea Tree Essential Oil. Vanilla Essential Oil adds a 10¢ markup to a lip balm. Note, this is not the same oil we use in the Vanilla Flavored lip balms, which only adds 5¢ to the price.
I hope that now the prices for our lip balms make a little more sense. If you have any questions about our pricing, please feel free to use the Contact Us page to send us an email.
*Our SPF lip balms have a higher base price than non-SPF lip balms.
