Quoted from SweetAlmondOilBenefits.com:

"[T]he skin of your lips is much thinner than facial skin and therefore more delicate. While the skin of your cheeks may become pink and irritated when exposed to the wind or sun, your lips can easily become chapped and the cells may begin to flake off much sooner.

[...] Sweet almond oil can be very useful for helping to heal and restore dry, chapped lips, especially when a product is used which combines other essential oils or ingredients specifically formulated for lip care.

Quoted from FitNRaw.com:

"It is a great source of Vitamin E, magnesium and calcium. If achieving beautiful skin has been your dream, you can turn it into reality by applying this oil regularly. By using this oil, the complexion of your skin will improve and it will glow with health. Benefits of using Sweet Almond Oil:

  • Improves complexion and retains glow
  • Moisturizes better and deeper
  • Soothes skin irritation and inflammation
  • Delays aging process
  • Cures chapped lips and body rashes"

Quoted from SpaPlayGround.com:

"As an emollient it nourishes and softens the skin helping to keep it smooth to the touch. Almond oil is similar in composition to the oil baby's excrete to keep their skin and hair healthy. This composition is beneficial to protecting and conditioning your skin no matter your age. By helping the skin stay healthy it promotes a youthful skin complexion.

Almond oil is frequently used to treat dry skin. As a dry skin treatment, almond oil relieves itchiness, soreness, rashes, dryness, irritation and burns. Almond oil aides the skin in keeping the proper balance of moisture in the skin which is critical when treating dry skin."

Quoted from LiveStrong.com:

"[S]weet almond oil acts as a humectant to help prevent the loss of moisture.

Margaret Grieve, author of "A Modern Herbal," says sweet almond oil contains more olein than olive oil, and that it's an excellent remedy for chapped hands. [...] Sweet almond oil is readily absorbed into the skin without leaving a greasy residue. It's also suitable for all skin types.

[...]The "Physicians' Desk Reference for Herbal Medicines" lists a number of antioxidant agents in sweet almond oil that provide anti-inflammatory properties. These include quercetin, quercitrin, morin and kaempferol. Two in particular, quercetin and kaempferol, may protect skin from sun damage." (Emphasis added)

humectant /hu·mec·tant/ (hu-mek´tant)
1. a substance that promotes retention of moisture.
2. a substance that prevents loss of moisture.

Quoted from HealthyEatingFact.com:

"Almond oil is naturally hypoallergenic, making it safe for all skin types even for sensitive skin and baby skin, except for those with specific allergies to almond. [...] Almond oil can also relieve inflammation, rashes, chapped lips, and sore muscles."

Quoted from DoctorOZ.com:

"Home Remedies Put to the Test
Sweet Almond Oil and Sugar to Cure Chapped Lips

Method: Mix 100% pure sweet almond oil with sugar to create a paste. Dip toothbrush in mixture and scrub lips.
Verdict: It works! The sweet almond oil helps to moisturize your lips while the sugar gently exfoliates away dead tissue. Be careful not to scrub too hard to avoid doing harm to your lips."

Note: at Opal Essence All Natural we do not put sugar or any other exfoliant in our lip balms. We just found this to be an interesting home remedy that shows the moisturizing properties of Sweet Almond Oil.
